Finally! This is the day you've all been waiting for (well, maybe not all of you -- but I'm sure there's a few of you, if not one or two of you ... or maybe a few imaginary readers too). Our friends over at Warner Bros. sent over a whole group of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince photos so that we can strap them all together and show them off in a big, bright shiny gallery. So, it is with great joy that I introduce you to Cinematical's official Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince photo gallery!
(I'll let you catch your breath from screaming so loud ....)
Done? Good. Below you'll find 16 gorgeous images from the film, all of which feature your favorite characters from the Potter universe. Me? All I want is a pair of those Luna Lovegood sunglasses. What's up with those? Maybe Warners will hand them out at Comic Con so I can run around, freaking people out. So trippy. So cool. Me want. Check out the gallery below.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince arrives in theaters on November 21.
'Hellboy II' Goes Unscripted
Filed under: Action, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Unscripted, Trailers and Clips
In the dust of the last Unscripted chat, which featured Hancock stars Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman, we've got something even more otherworldly -- Hellboy II: The Golden Army director Guillermo del Toro chatting with two of his stars, Ron Perlman and Selma Blair, in the latest round of Unscripted.
The trio were feeling a bit frisky when they entered Moviefone land to record the interview, and they discuss favorite movies and monsters, poke some fun at James Lipton, and delight in some low-brow humor. Watching del Toro in this clip, I can only hope that his future includes more of the humor present in the clips. There's a lot more to this man than creepy creatures.
And there's one additional, cut clip above, tossed to us scavengers here at Cinematical. Check them all out, and be sure to hit the theaters and see Hellboy II this Friday.
New 'Tropic Thunder' Trailer Puts Up a Good Fight
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips
I had to make such a tough decision last week when offered to attend a screening of either Tropic Thunder or Pineapple Express this coming Wednesday. What the hell does one do in that kind of situation? Both films look hilariously awesome to the tenth degree. I mean, if I could split my movie brain in half and send each part to a different screening, I totally would. But I can't. So I had to make a decision. I won't say which flick I picked right now, because then you won't tune in later this week when I spoil everything! That's right! Every last minute of the movie, right down to the order of the credits. Spoiled!
But anyway, check out a new international trailer for Tropic Thunder up top (or over on the film's official international site). Since it's from our international friends, it might be a little beyond a green band trailer, so keep that in mind office folk. There's not much else to say about this one -- watch it for yourself and tell me it doesn't look out of control. Stiller worries me sometimes because he could be a little too "stupid," but with Downey Jr., Steve Coogan, Nick Nolte, Bill Hader, Justin Theroux, Jay Baruchel and Jack Black in there, I think we'll be okay.
Tropic Thunder blows its way into theaters on August 15.
Michael Bay's Rejected 'The Dark Knight' Script
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Fandom, Scripts, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Have you ever wondered what The Dark Knight might look like written by someone other than Christopher Nolan? Perhaps in your deepest, darkest, dissatisfied-with-Batman-Begins level of consciousness, you wondered what it might look like if tackled by another director. One who had more action movies on his resume. Someone like ... Michael Bay. Well, look no further. A few pages of his rejected script have appeared online, courtesy of Spill.com. I think one of my biggest problems with Nolan's Batman films is their absolute celibacy. Batman is a red-blooded American male in the comics; he romances many of Gotham's loveliest ladies. Rachel Dawes would never have been so coldly shoved aside in the comics -- and thankfully, Bay looks to be rectifying this. Plus, I really like his take on Dawes. She knows that she can be sexy and smart without being any less of a woman. And she isn't just a D.A. either! She's a skilled mechanic, and is able to fix the Batmobile when its owner can't. Just judging from the few pages, Bay has put her in the center of the action, and not relegated her to the sidelines like Nolan did.
All right, I can't really keep this up. You'll have to just go read it yourself and have a good laugh at all the talk of toned stomachs, beads of sweat, and AC/DC songs. And please, Mr. Bay -- don't hold it against us here at Cinematical. We have a Megan Fox gallery and we'll all go see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I promise.
[Thanks, Matt, for sending this to me.]
New, Fuzzy 'Dragonball' Photos

So while details surrounding the big-screen version of Dragonball have been kept relatively under wraps, it is wise to remember that nothing ever stays secret for long in the age of the internet. Just a few weeks after the first image of Justin Chatwin as the anime hero Goku hit the net, a crop of new magazine scans have been posted over at the Dragonball fan site, dbthemovie.com, with a few new shots of Goku, Bulma (Emmy Rossum) and Master Roshi (Chow Yun Fat). So even though this latest batch looks pretty similar to some of the earlier shots, at least these aren't watermarked.
Based on the classic anime series, Dragonball is the story of the hero Goku and his mission to protect the famed 'dragonballs' from the evil Lord Piccolo (played by James Marsters). Throw in some romance in the form of Jamie Chung and you have a summer blockbuster, right? Well, for director James Wong's sake I hope so, because let's be completely honest: expectations for this film are not high. In fact, most fans are probably just praying that Wong and company don't ruin their favorite characters, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Dragonball is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 10, 2009.
Asian Cinema Scene: John Woo's 'Red Cliff' Ready to Roll Out
Filed under: Action, Drama, Foreign Language, Independent, New Releases, Cinematical Indie
Can a director best known for bloody bullet ballets pull off a historical action epic? We'll know later this week when John Woo's Red Cliff rolls out across Asia. The film's full-length running time of more than four hours has been split in two; the first part opens in China, Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan on Thursday, with a release in Malaysia next week and Japan in November, according to Variety. Part two is set to debut next January.
Red Cliff, based on the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (which has been adapted for television and film multiple times), is the fulfillment of a dream for Woo, who first tried to make it nearly 20 years ago. The title refers to a battle involving more than a million soldiers that brought an end to the Han Dynasty in 208 AD, resulting in the division of China into three kingdoms. Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen and Lin Chiling star.
Woo has been staging elaborate action sequences for many years, but hasn't tackled a project of this scale and historical sweep before. An international version, expected to run about two and a half hours, will be completed by January. No US distributor has yet been set. To get fully caught up on this sometimes-troubled production, reportedly budgeted at $80 million, read our previous reports from February 2006, September 2006, April 2007 (1), April 2007 (2), August 2007, February 2008 (trailer), and June 2008.

Cute and Cuddly 'Hellboy II' Trailer
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Movie Marketing, Remakes and Sequels, Trailers and Clips
In a movie season of superheroes, it is no easy task to stand out -- even if you're bright red with a giant stone hand and a tail. But I dare you to find one other superhero out there with as much swagger and love for kittens as Hellboy. Check out this new trailer for the fantasy-action flick Hellboy II: The Golden Army above which, conveniently, poses as a helpful public service announcement from Hellboy (Ron Perlman) himself ... along with his trademark kitty.
In Guillermo del Toro's second installment of the comic book adaptation, the uneasy truce between humanity and 'the invisible realm' has come to an end. A ruthless leader with the ability to walk in both worlds has gathered a mythical 'Golden Army' to, in so many words, kick ass and take names. So who else can we turn to other than Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development to save the world once again?
Del Toro started the first wave of viral sites for the film with HetFet and Squeaky Clean Waste Management back in April. But with the exception of hardcore fans, I don't think many of us got on board with the campaign. In the end, it was a better idea to have Red make the rounds with the American Gladiators, Chuck, and an appearance on The Actor's Studio with James Lipton. My personal favorite is his audition for mun2, but I'll leave it up to you to decide which one you like best.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens this Friday.
Video of the Day: Indy Shot First!
Filed under: Action, Fandom, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Trailers and Clips
Fans of Raiders of the Lost Ark might want to look away right now as what you're about to watch could cause serious damage to your soul. A brief snippet from the upcoming Raiders of the Lost Ark Special Edition DVD has leaked online and, in it, there seems to be a little update from George Lucas. I kinda like the small touches added and think fans will get used to them after awhile. Yup, don't worry ... they'll just blend into the background. I mean, really, who cares about this old flick anyway? It's so ... 1981-ish. That said, I'm sure folks are already in the process of creating an "Indy Shot First" t-shirt. Check it out up top, then let us know what you think? Should we start a petition? Has Lucas lost his mind? And how could Spielberg agree to something like this? Sound off ...
[Thanks Matthew]
Monday Morning Poll: Pick Another Del Toro Sequel
Filed under: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels, Monday Morning Poll, Polls
.jpg)
With the arrival of this weekend's Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, we find ourselves (once again) discussing *damn* how great a genre filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is. I mean, he's a wonderful filmmaker all around, but I include the word "genre" as an indication of my respect for the man. He's so knee-deep in horror, dark fantasy, and pulp fiction that I doubt he'd even WANT to do a straight courtroom drama. (I'd go see it though.) One of the most creative storytellers since the also-awesome Terry Gilliam, Guillermo del Toro hopes you'll want to take another spin with Hellboy this weekend, and that got us thinking ... if you could convince the director to do another sequel, which would it be. And why, knucklehead?
For me, I'd love to see another movie in the vein of The Devil's Backbone, but then again ... I wouldn't really want a sequel to that particular masterpiece. But fine, once the man is all done with his Hobbit movies, I say let him resurrect the Blade franchise. His chapter was (far and away) the best of that series.
