Spin-ematical: New on DVD for 11/11

Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The red beastie with a penchant for kittens is back. This time, Hellboy must stop an underworld leader bent on awakening an army of unstoppable gizmos created to take over the world. He's got problems with Liz, and new aggravations from Johann (voiced by Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlane). You can pick up the regular old simple edition, a big 3-disc set, or if you like collectibles, a boxed collector's set with a statue, poster, and book on regular DVD or Blu-ray. (More info on the DVD right here.) Buy it.

Mister Foe
On the less flashy front, there's the excellent Jamie Bell in Hallam Foe. Another victim of renaming, the film is known as Mister Foe stateside, but still covers Bell as Foe -- a peeping Tom on the streets of Edinburgh after his mother's untimely death. You won't get the mass of goodies that Hellboy has, but there are a few extras to dip into. Rent it.

Sukiyaki Western DjangoUber popular Japanese cult filmmaker Takashi Miike now brings us Sukiyaki Western Django -- riffing on spaghetti westerns, two clans battle for a town's treasure as a gunslinger strolls into town. According to Jeffrey M. Anderson's review: "Miike has managed the best Spaghetti Western knockoff in years." Buy it on DVD or Blu-ray.

Also out: Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Christmas on Mars
Trippy science fiction from the likes of the Flaming Lips -- what else could you want? Set to the band's tunes, with the members starring alongside the likes of Fred Armisen and Adam Goldberg, Christmas on Mars follows the colonization of Mars during, obviously, Christmas. A serious malfunciton leads the team to fear and hallucinations as an alien comes to help. Rent it for curiosity, and Buy it if you're a Lips fan.

Planet B-Boy
On the much less fantastical, but still entertaining side of things, there's the documentary covering one of the '80s blessings -- breakdancing. It would be a perfect match to Breakin'. Rent it.

Also released: Liberty Kid, Love and Honor, Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman, Hanoi Hilton, Love Songs, Noelle, Pink Conspiracy, Western, Suburban Mayhem

Harry Potter Years 1-5 Limited Edition
I'm including this in the Blu-ray section rather than collector's corner because really, why would you want this if not for the crisp visuals, or to never touch the release as a collector's investment? We've still got 3 films on the way, and then the ultimate, full series will be upon us. Skip it, unless you're dying to see it crisp!

Also released: Black Christmas and The Story of O

Andrzej Zulawski's La Femme Publique -- Premium Edition
Now THIS is a collector's edition. This premium edition is limited to 2,000 sets, includes the DVD, soundtrack, lobby cards, and booklet. For only $39.99. It's a small price to pay to be one in 2,000! Buy it.

JFK -- Ultimate Collector's Edition
A little less limited, we've got the content-rich new JFK release. There's 3 hours of bonus content including a 90 minute documentary, commentary, and deleted scenes, plus another disc with the documentary The Kennedys: America's Emerald Kings, and a hardcover book. Buy It on DVD or Blu-ray.

Also released: Roberto Rossellini -- Director's Series, Quo Vadis, and Centennial Collections for Sunset Boulevard, Sabrina, and Roman Holiday

And since the holidays mean tons of Christmas releases, here are some of them:

Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage -- Remember this project? With Jared Padalecki and Peter O'Toole? It's gone straight to DVD.
