Poll: So What About That New 'Twilight' Trailer?
Filed under: Romance, Thrillers, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Polls

Late last week, a new well-edited, well-scored Twilight trailer arrived online and folks went nutty for it. Having been away in the middle of the woods for the past few days, I just checked it out a few minutes ago for the first time, and I'll say they definitely did a bang-up job teasing in the adolescent boys looking for a little fight in their vampire flicks. Yeah, there's a love story somewhere inside this 90210-with-fangs, but it sure as heck doesn't drown our latest piece of sizzle. (Note: We were just told Twilight will have a final run time of 120 minutes and will be rated PG-13.)
Look, whether you want to admit it or not, young females and their moms are the predominant audience for Twilight. They're buying the books, they're running the giant Twilight fan sites and it's their opinion that really matters. (Note: I'm aware there are male fans of Twilight -- and more power to them -- but understand I'm just pointing out the fact that they're in the minority here.) So I'm wondering a few things after checking out the latest trailer -- like, did it bring in any new fans, male or female? Was Twilight's core female audience turned off by the new trailer because it didn't feature more of the love story? Did the score make it seem too creepy and horror movie-ish? Is that the tone you want?
This puppy gets two polls below (feel free to watch the trailer again after the jump), and don't be afraid to spill your feeling over into the comments section.

The biggest problem from the book that carries over into this trailer, is the pacing of the story.
SPOILERS
In the book, there's love-story, love-story, love-story, OH BAD VAMPIRES, the end.
While there's enough problems with that in itself, the trailer is a bit misleading.
The trailer presents the problem with James as this central conflict to the plot, but in reality, it doesn't crop up until maybe the last fourth of the book.

I thought the trailer was great!!! I have read the book like 3 times.. When My friends and I saw the trailer we thought "wow!" this is exactally what we pictured in our heads.. James is in the last 4th of the book and I don't feel that James was the central Character. One thing that was pointed out which was way good is Bella and Edwards Relationship and him telling her about the vampires that are not good, and that could hurt her.. Over all I feel that the trailer was great and did the book justice..

Exactly.
There is basically no plot in the book.
That's why the movie script has added the 'baddies' earlier, and shown us how dangerous they are (rather than just having the lead couple dithering for six hundred pages!!).

It's pretty obvious the bad vampires are more a part of the story in the movie than the book. Looks like they get introduced earlier, even before they run into the Cullens, in order to better establish them as baddies. I think that is a good thing.
The book is from Bella's perspective so you miss out on most of the action. You just get her sitting around waiting and worrying. That doesn't make a very interesting film. I love the romance of this story, but I'll admit that it alone won't draw a big enough audience. The action needed to be pumped up to attract more males and non-fans of the books.

I agree! Movies and books two very different media. Books are more about imaginations and the feelings generated from reading, while movies focus a lot more on the visual images, sound and real actions. The reason the book became so sucessuful and popular among mostly female readers is because, despite featuring vampires, it is essentially a love story and over 3/4 of the book deals with romance, feelings and emotions, the kind of stuff that generally interests women yet repulses men. So in order to appeal to the male audience and those who haven't read the book, they definitely need to butch up the movie by puting more actions, suspense, visual effects and all that kind of cool stuff in it. And let's face it, pure dramas hardly become box office hits. If they had made the movie exactly the way the book was written, it would've probably been a very boring movie and could've hardly become a hit. Movies that are marketed solely toward female viewers rarely earn big box office success. Even Titanic, the mega blockbuster hit that centers upon a love story, has loads of action sequences and CGI visual effects to ensure its success.
My point is that what works on books may not work on films. That's why very few film adaptations actually surpass the books. A lot of twilght fans seem to have this unrealistic belief that unless the movie is made exactly like the book or it will surely fail. Well not necessarily because i've seen a couple of films that are actually better than the books and they don't follow very closely to the source material. I'm glad Summit and the crew took risks and made some modifications to the movie, and they certainly made a smart move by putting more focus on the villains & action aspect of the movie in the final trailer. I don't know if this will draw in more non-fans but at least it makes the movie look less like a girly chick.

i thought the Edward that is Robert in real life didnt fit the description that I had in my mind when reading the book, for some reason I thought he'd look a lil bit older and even more sexier, I totally think they got Emmett right and James as well but was also surprised at Larent and I think to a point Bella is ok, tho I also thought she'd be a lil bit more naive looking. but i loved the books and im excited about the movie. it does seem like they made the movie to be about Edward and James altho it's a good while before James does come into the "light". no doubt that that fight see will be awesome .

everyones making it seem like all guys want is ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION.
thats lame.
guys dont mind chick flicks as much as people say they do.
and the bit of action thats in twilight makes it manly enough to not be considered a chick flick.
plus theres really attractive girls in the movie too.
did anyone think of that?

Behind expected of a twilight trailer! I JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!! Tho there is only problem that I do have. The more I watch the trailer the more I get unexcited for the movie. So if I had to say one thing to everone reading this, is to watch as much of the trailer as you want! As many times as you want, but know that the more you read, listen or watch of twilight, the more unexcited you will be when finally the movie comes out!!! O, BY THE WAY THE MOVIE COMES OUT IN ONLY 38 DAYS, 2 HOURS, 17MINS AND 15 SECONDS!!! COULD IT BE ANYMORE CLOSER!!!

I think this movie will appeal to a very large audience. It will appeal to the fans, romance lovers, action seekers and of course the lovers of scifi and vampire movies. I think Hollywood will be very surprised. I know the fans of Moonlight are looking forward to their vampire fix.
