'The Dark Knight' DVD and More 'Batman 3' Rumors
Filed under: Action, Warner Brothers, Fandom, Newsstand, Home Entertainment, Movie Marketing, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels

First comes the standard 1-disc edition, for those buyers who just don't care about flashy extras or DVD art. There will be no bonus features on the one-disc, so buy carefully. True fans will be opting for the 2-disc set, which includes these delightful extras:
- Gotham Uncovered documentary
- Featurettes (Batman Tech: The Incredible Gadgets and Tools, Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of The Dark Knight)
- 6 episodes of Gotham Cable's Premier News Program
- Galleries (The Joker Cards, Concept Art, Poster Art, Production Stills)
- Trailers and TV spots
There's also a third edition the really hardcore among you will be standing in line for, and that's the limited edition pictured above. It doesn't come with additional features, but is secured in a steel DVD case and accompanied by a replica Batpod. As it's not actually big enough to ride or pivot on walls, it's useless to me. But it's ideal for those of you with lots of desk space!
In related news: The brand new edition of Production Weekly lists Batman 3 as going into pre-production this February, with Christopher Nolan directing. PW is a pretty reliable trade source, though it's odd to see news like that hit there before arriving in, say, Variety. As always, more info when it develops ...

No, pay attention. The bluray will have no additional features, all of the features of the 2 disc will be included. There is absolutely no removal of features. The idea of that is pretty silly being a bluray release and all.

@bayamus, it actually is a new trend for Blu-ray releases though. Note that Universal does not understand that Blu-ray discs hold more GB, and they actually often opt to leave out special features, yet still charge more than DVD price.
Baby Mama for example. No special features on the Blu-ray. Several on the DVD. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if Warner did leave out half of the special features, and re-release the Blu-ray next year with more junk in it.

i think the information on the special edition batpod package is misinformed as far as not having the additional featurettes. the box in the picture says "2-disc set," which implies that the additional features are included. i hope i'm right.

Just a guess, but I would hazard that Ms. Rappe meant no additional features BEYOND what is on the 2-disc set already. That's how I read it anyway...
Anyway, i'm just glad for the news about Nolan and Bat 3! I'd like to see it confirmed in Variety (as you said) but a good sign!

Actually I think the edition that comes with the Batpod will just be the Blu-ray edition Special Edition which will have have the same special features as the 2 disk DVD.

Whatever happened to the rumors of this movie having additional footage that increased the overall runtime to almost 3 hours?
Please make a definitive cut of this movie and put it on the special edition. Don't make us buy some Dark Knight 2.5 version in 2010 before Batman 3 comes out in theatres.
This movie feels like its been edited for time, and in my opinion, remains its only visible flaw.
Even comparing dialogue between the trailers and the final product shows that alternate scenes were filmed, and in many ways, the dialogue was better spoken that the rushed pace thats in the final product.
If there's a better version of this film available, please offer to sell it sooner rather than later.

At some point I had heard that they might use extra footage of Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight to wrap up his character in Batman 3. So maybe they're holding onto the deleted scenes just in case.

I'm confused. Is the steel case ONLY for Blue-Ray? because I went to FYE and pre-ordered it and he asked me "Blue ray or dvd?" and I said dvd..and so are there two different versions or...will mine not come with the batpod? or what??? i'm confused.
