Geek Daily: Sex With 'The Spirit,' Viggo Talks 'Hobbit' and 'Watchmen 2' ... Already?

  • /Film has a bunch of new photos from The Spirit, the film the Internet and Lionsgate forgot. The photos are so snazzy they nearly erase memories of toilets always being funny, and giant wrenches existing in mud lakes. I can still admire the retro clothes, and how well Gabriel Macht looks in a mask, can't I?
  • And lest you think Will Eisner is the only comic legend being abused, Patrick Wilson told MTV that, yes, the studio has talked about the possibilities of a Watchmen sequel. "It's all been talked about. Financially, they like to do that. But all of us, Zack [Snyder] included, all go, 'How on Earth could you do a sequel or prequel?' Certainly, artistically, I can't fathom how it would happen. But hey, if Alan Moore writes it, I'd love to read it." Given the solid endings of both Watchmen and 300, I say you combine the two impossible sequels into one insane film, throw in wizards, ninjas, and Jason Statham and just call it good.
  • According to Dread Central, Brett Ratner is considering the role of director on that Conan franchise reboot. Like with any Ratner project, we'll hold our cries for help till things are made official.

  • Moriarty over at Ain't It Cool News has a script review up of Kick-Ass. He calls it "the future of superhero films." It's a sentiment echoed by brand new castmember Clark Duke, who was reading the series from issue one, and wonders if the film could cause a cultural shift, leading to everyday superhero wear. Well, if I'm going to have to see men and women in Lycra and Spandex, it might as well be a superhero costume and not the Lance Armstrong bike outfit. At least it would be something new. (Seriously, everyone in my neighborhood sports one of those Armstrong one piece things. It would be unisex and futuristic if it weren't edging on obsessive fandom.)
  • And now the best for last -- finally, someone caught up with Viggo Mortensen and asked him whether he would be returning to The Hobbit. Mortensen told MTV that he hasn't been asked yet. "I haven't heard anything. I met [Guillermo del Toro] once years ago, but haven't talked to him since." Of course, much about The Hobbit is still up in the air, particularly whether or not there will be a second film that bridges the gap between it and The Fellowship of the Ring. That's really the only film Aragorn would be in. Mortensen isn't too worried about his lack of involvement -- but he reconfirmed that he would reprise the role if asked. "I'm going to cross that bridge when I get to it. Obviously, I would rather have the chance to play that role myself since I originated it on film than have someone else do it."
