'Friends' ... The Movie?
Back when I posted about television shows hitting the big screen in February, I included a joke Matthew Perry made about how the cast of Friends were "trying to organize a thing soon," but he meant a dinner, not a movie.Did he, in fact, mean a movie? We can take this with a grain of salt right now, but The Daily Mail says that a film based on the popular series has gotten the green light to start filming in the next year and a half, with all of the actors interested in reprising their roles -- Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer.
Basically, it's all said to be due to the success of Sex and the City, and their source says: "she [Aniston] and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly." The rest of the piece has a bunch of particulars about money, and how the show is at the top of the TV-to-screen list.
Whether it's true or not, it makes sense. But do you want to see the friends reunite?

I wouldn't go see it. The last few seasons were ridiculously unfunny and all of the characters had become caricatures of themselves. The only way I'd see a movie of Friends is if it had serious undertones and a touch of realism. The slapstick, three-point-camera, no ceilings or fourth wall thing just won't translate evenly to screen.

Friends is the BEST Program ever made season 10 was one of the best. i would love a friends reunion But not a movie. Like Lisa Kudrow sed the show was filmed before a live audiance and for a movie the would not do that . So the tone of the show would have to be brought down and she is right i too dont know how the show would trnslate into a movie. i like the rumored idea from back in 06 ware they were going to do 4 one hour NEW Episodes (specials) and they were going to be back on NBC i think that would be better than a movie in my opinion and . I NEED a friends reunion. i still cry ever time i watch the last episode...i NEED IT!

You just described the meaning of "Tv - Series"... of course that wasn't realstic, but we are talking about a MOVIE... have you ever see a movie where you shot the scenes like in a tv - series? (with the various stages near from each other?)
And i don't think that their actual faces or so will screw up: what about Sex and the City then?
Anyway i think it's a nice way to make their big ending: i don't think that the seasons ended much well... many things are still unsolved. Hope the movie will not ruin the great moment we had from the series, but i'm sure we will have a great final shot! (maybe with a Ross & Rachel's wedding? Who knows ;) )

Heck Yes! My girlfriend and I can't wait to see a FRIENDS movie! We love the show, own all the seasons, and can practically recite every episode. I hope this actually does go through and we get to see our favorite tv stars back in the roles we love on the big screen!

Do I want to see them reunite? Not really. There are probably a couple of hundred hours out there already so another 2 hours just seems like more of the same. Also, unlike Seinfeld, they did a nice job of wrapping it up. Would probably watch it once it hit DVD, but I wouldn't make the effort to see it in a theater.

At the rate these TV-to-movies are going maybe I'll get the 'Saved By The Bell' big-budget feature film I've been hoping for.

Nope.
Never liked the show.
Funny shows that should get a movie before anyone else.
Seinfeld - King of the mountain
Married...With Children - Never got a proper ending. Lets see if Al's luck has changed

The show didn't go out on a great note the last few seasons, and I've had zero interest in watching the reruns since.
A big screen adaptation would just be...weird. And it wouldn't do as well as Sex and the City, because I don't believe it's sustained the rabid fanbase. Being a fan of Sex and the City is more fashionable.
And turning a sitcom dependent on a laugh track into a motion picture is a risky proposition in and of itself.

I don't think there is an accurate measurement for the self loathing I feel for myself when I answer the question of whether I would go see a FRIENDS movie with a resounding YES! When did my life become so empty, that I salivate at the thought of seeing the antics of those wacky funsters in the 16:9 aspect ratio?? If they make it I think they should slap a laugh track on the film. Could there be anything creepier than a movie comedy that gets laughs even if no one goes to see it?? Yeah, wrap your mind around that one!

Absolutely - in a heart beat! I really miss the characters and the friendships they shared on the t.v. series. The movie would give me a final closure for a show that is now very nostalgic for me.

I would actually love a big screen version of "Friends." It would be worth the ten bucks to see what direction they decide to go with it. Maybe even as a Dramedy, not just a comedy. What's with this laugh track commenting? It seemed more of a laugh track on other shows, then there ever was on "Friends." Then again "Friends" was actually funny. They are just in talks, as of now, and they have already said they weren't going to do anything without keeping to the goal, integrity, and spirit of the original show, so I'm really excited. I'm definately on boards to see it, when and if it gets made!

Yes indeed, The show was lots of fun, but don't expect much positive feedback since I think the main viewership of this show doesn't visit talkbacks very often. Sex & the City was supposedly a bad idea in talkbacks too.

i think everyone has forgot about the magic of friends! it would be awesome to reconnect with the show... i have wanted a friends movie since i found out (WHEN I WAS IN 2ND GRADE!) that the 10th season would be the last. i dont think the plot of the movie will be too hard, me and my friend already have been planning a plot, and i am sure other people have ideas that could get to the writers somehow.
and saying that friends isnt as cool as sex in the city, and people wouldnt want to see the movie, is completely wrong! again, people dont remember how cool it was to say that you were watching friends especially for me, because of how young i was! i love friends and am a huge fan, and i really really really hope there is a movie!!! it would be an amazing thing, and i dont think they can go wrong about it!
by the way, would they have ot remake the set??? where is the set and all the major props?
