2. Honestly, I don't think I care that much about seeing MI: 4 at all...with or without Cruise. To me the franchise has always been vastly overrated and the films are, at best, uneven in quality.

That said, it's still an interesting CONCEPT, always has been, so if they do do another MI then I would vote for a total re-boot.

3. Hail the power of the media. They tell the masses not to like him and voila the people follow. I don't like the man's religion for my own reasons, but that doesn't mean i have to burn him at the stake for his craziness! If i were to take actors' personal choices and views as a reason not to go see a movie, I'd probably never single movie ever again.

For all the man's fault its funny how his view that started this witch hunt (the abuse of anti-depressants) has turned out to be more scientifically accurate as they have been found to be little better than placebos. Even so, the man apologize for being politically incorrect. MI4 should be his to turned down.

6. Considering all three movies have barely "felt" like part of a series anyways, I don't think it would ruin the M:I movie franchise to bring in a new actor. I think Tom Cruise could still do it. And dude's scary committed: if he wants to do the movie, HE'LL DO THE MOVIE. But ruining the overall series? No, I don't think it would.

I would like J.J. Abrams, or one of "his people" to do the next movie, though. M:I III was one of my favorite movies in the past few years.

10. They should revamp the whole series and preserve the ideals of the brilliant show. Cruise messed it up because he wanted to be the leading role when everyone knew that the power behind MI was the entire team worked together. Ten minutes into that ridiculous MI2 and you knew that it was an over produced, over hyped, self indulgent movie about Tom Cruise and how cute and athletic he was, nothing more. So why not, bring MI back but stick to the Bourne type of spy movie without the over the top crap.

12. As much as I enjoyed M:I3, I believe that to be more about Abrams direction and writing than about Cruise. I almost cannot watch his movies anymore. He is so off the wall in real life that I cannot believe in the character he plays in the movie without thinking of batshit crazy Tom Cruise underneath. Just my opinion.

13. Adam, as much as i hate to admit it, I'm with you. I'm a big believer in "separating the art from the artist" but in this case I really have trouble with it. Whenever I see him on screen now I just picture him jumping on Oprah's couch or chastising Matt Lauer about anti-depressants.

I probably should be able to separate the talent from his wackiness...because i DO think he still has talent...but i can't.

14. I agree the franchise is kinda overrated. The first one was definitely entertaining, 2 (meh...) and 3 (eh, but better) weren't nearly as good.
But, I believe its time to hang it up.

If there is fourth I don't think a reboot is necessary as the first was en medias res, wasn't it? I'd say just continue the theme of using whatever director happens to be the flavor of the month and the story not being really contiguous with the previous but have some semblance of continuity.

Maybe because Batman's close, but I nominate Chris Nolan if he was available to direct and Christian Bale to replace Cruise, if you're going to replace him.

15. It all depends on the director for me. I think J.J. Abrams was an inspired choice for the third movie. Someone of that quality for the fourth movie would make me interested.

17. I hope they do a fourth without Tom Cruise. I can't stand him, and only ever liked him in a couple of movies, even before the couch jumping and the matt lauer piece and scientology absurdities. I think Tom Cruise should star in Battlefield Earth 2, and further cement him as an absurd crazy person.

I'm so hoping that Valkyrie comes out and bombs horribly. Maybe Tom Cruise will get the message, finally, that his pointless, stupid pyramid scheme religion and his mean, viscious and self-centered behaviour won't be tollerated by fans for long.

By the way, the only two Tom Cruise movies I can stand are Minority Report and War of the Worlds. Oh wait, those are technically Steven Spielberg movies. Exactly.

18. I personally find all this Cruise-bashing childish and tedious. How many actors DUI and nobody gives a damn or passes judgement? The dude jumped on a couch. Big fucking deal. "Valkryie" looks pretty damn cool. I could give a rat's ass if the photo of Von Stauffenberg was doctored. And I think that in that first scene of "MI3", where Hunt begs for the life of his SPOILER wife and tries several approaches(collected, enraged, pleading) to stop Philip Seymour Hoffman's character, is some of his best work. Ethan Hunt, as portrayed by Tom Cruise is only the center of the series. To remove him, as well perennial wing man Ving Rhames, would be a grave mistake.

19. First of all, it's not childish to have an opinion. Some people like opera, some people don't. Does that make the people who don't like it childish? Tom Cruise's couch jumping was the absolute least of his PR disasters, dispite what many believe. What did it for me was his Matt Lauer interview and the creepy.....CREEPY....scientology video that got leaked to the internet. There was a reason Scientologists didn't want that leaked: Tom Cruise is just about the creepiest wierdo in the entertainment industry, and that video proves it (and the Jerry O'Connell parody of it was just about the funniest thing I've seen in years).

20. What I don't care for in the MI series are:
- the departure from the team concept of the series
- the MI I twist (if you've seen it, you know)

MI III unfortunately exhibited a couple of Abrams' worst writing habits
- start in the middle, then back up; gee, didn't we do this in Alias, oh, only 2 million times?
- have our cake and eat it too (again, I won't spoil it for you)
both annoying ... so, please get another writer for IV if there is one.

I think that Paramount doesn't want Cruise to star because his up-front deal soaked up all the profits from the last film and they don't want a repeat. This is part of what all the rancor is about. Is Cruise too old? I don't know. I would be willing to see him in another MI, but I'll admit that the idea of a new face is appealing.
