For this week's Trailer Park we're taking a Rube Goldberg approach, with an intricate series of mechanisms (metaphorically speaking) allowing us to careen from one trailer to the next by one connection or other. Ready? Let's start with:

X-Files: I Want to Believe
Yes, I want to believe too. X-Files became unwatchable for me in its last few years on the air, but prior to that it was one of the best hours of dramatic television ever. I'd love to see the series revived as a successful film franchise, but this trailer isn't doing much for me. We have the reappearance of Fox Muldar (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), as well as the theme from the TV show, but the rest is a muddle of chaotic imagery. This being X-Files, details are being kept to a minimum, but I'm not seeing enough here to get me revved up, which is how I was hoping to feel. Here's Elisabeth's take on it.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People
Ms. Anderson also puts in an appearance in this new comedy from Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg. I've been a fan of Shaun for awhile and I recently developed a fondness for the first season of Pegg's TV series Spaced, which has me looking forward to this one. This full length trailer has a little more meat on its bones than the teaser that Christopher Campbell first posted about back in December. Pegg plays a British writer who gets his dream job and tries to fit in at a conservative New York magazine. Jeff Bridges plays his boss, looking considerably shaggier than he does in Iron Man, and Kirsten Dunst plays his colleague and love interest. It looks like much of the comedy will arise from Pegg just being British juxtaposed against the New York elite. Should be fun.

The Promotion
This comedy about the apparently cutthroat world of grocery store management is directed by Steve Conrad, who wrote the screenplay for The Pursuit of Happyness. It stars Seann William Scott (he'll always be Stifler to me) and John C. Reilly as two men competing for promotion to store manager at a coveted location. Reilly seems like the stand out here and he and Scott seem to have some good chemistry. Jenna Fischer also stars as Scott's wife, though she appears to be doing the same character she plays on The Office. Scott Weinberg's review of the film is also very encouraging, and I'm hoping to get a chance to see this when it goes into limited release on June 6. Check out the trailer right here:

Noise
Tim Robbins plays a man with passionate hatred for car alarms (I hear ya, brother). In a move reminiscent of Batman only nerdier (insert Dork Knight joke here), his character becomes a vigilante of sorts called The Rectifier, vandalizing any car he comes across with its alarm sounding. William Hurt also stars as the mayor who has trouble pronouncing "Rectifier." This tale of one man who has been pushed too far reminds me of a more light-hearted take on Michael Douglas's Falling Down. I'm not stampeding out to see this one, but I think it will be worth a look. Here's Eugene's take on the trailer.

City of Ember
Robbins also appears in this yarn about a subterranean city that has been built to ensure man's survival (sound familiar Matrix fans?) but the city's generator is running out of steam. Now two teenagers must race against time to save the city. It seems like it's got potential. The cast also includes Bill Murray and Oscar-winner Martin Landau. Here's what Erik thought.
