RIP: Reel Important People -- July 2, 2007

  • Claude Brosset (1943-2007) - French actor who appears opposite Jean Paul Belmondo in L'Alpagueur, Les Corps de mon Ennemi, Flic ou Voyou and Le Marginal. He also appears in George Roy Hill's A Little Romance, Costa-Gavras' Un Homme de Trop and Tavernier's Capitaine Conan and L.627. He died June 25 in Pontoise, Val d'Oise, France. (IMDb.com)
  • Leo Burmester (1944-2007) - Actor who who played 'Catfish' in The Abyss (pictured). He also appears in Lone Star, The Legend of Zorro, The Last Temptation of Christ, A Perfect World and The Devil's Advocate. He died of leukemia June 28. (Playbill)
  • Brian Finch (1936-2007) - British screenwriter, mostly for television (Coronation Street), who wrote 2005's Heidi, which featured Max Von Sydow. He died June 27. (The Independent)
  • Anita Guha (?-2007) - Indian actress who portrayed Hindu goddesses in Sampoorna Ramayana, Tulsi Vivah and Krishna-Krishna. She also starred as the title character in the hit film Jai Santoshi Maa. She died of heart failure June 20, in Mumbai. (Variety)
  • William Hutt (1920-2007) - Canadian actor who appears in Norman Jewison's The Statement and John Frankenheimer's The Fixer. He also provided his voice for the sci-fi pic The Shape of Things to Come and multiple documentaries. He died of leukemia June 27, in Stratford, Ontario. (Variety)
  • Jeeva (c.1963-2007) - Tamil filmmaker who wrote and directed Unnale Unnale, 12 B and Ullam Ketkumae. As a cinematographer he worked for S. Shankar (Hindustani), Priyadarshan (Hera Pheri) and Surya S.J. (Vaali). He died of cardiac arrest June 26, in Moscow. (Times of India)
  • Donna King (1918-2007) - Singer in the family act the King Sisters. She appears as herself, with the group, in the musicals Cuban Pete, Sing Your Worries Away, Larceny with Music and Follow the Band. She also acted in the sci-fi horror pic The Hideous Sun Demon. She died June 20 in El Paso, Texas. (Variety)
  • Charles Lindberg (c.1921-2007) - One of the flagraisers at Iwo Jima. He is portayed by Alessandro Mastrobuono in Flags of Our Fathers. He died June 24 in Minneapolis. (wcco.com)
  • Joel Siegel (1943-2007) - Movie critic for Good Morning America. He also appears as himself in Sidney Lumet's Deathtrap. Read Kim's full post here.
  • Art Stevens (c.1915-2007) - Animator who co-directed The Rescuers and The Fox and the Hound, which he also co-produced. He began at Disney in 1939 and worked uncredited on Fantasia and Bambi. His first credit was as character animator on Peter Pan, a credit he also had on 101 Dalmatians, Robin Hood and The Rescuers. He also worked as an animator on half-live-action pics Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Mary Poppins, as a writer on The Black Cauldron and as a title designer on live-action pics Freaky Friday, The Strongest Man in the World and No Deposit, No Return. He died of a heart attack May 22, in Studio City, California. (Variety)
  • Roscoe Ward (c.1919-2007) - One of the subjects of the documentary Brother's Keeper, which followed the story of his brother's murder trial. He died June 27. (uticaOD.com)
  • Robert Vincent Wright (c.1919-2007) - Co-writer of the 1969 war movie The Thousand Plane Raid. He died of acute bronchitis and pneumonia June 17, in Thousand Oaks, California. (LA Times)
  • Edward Yang (1947-2007) - Taiwanese filmmaker who wrote/directed Yi Yi, Taipei Story, A Brighter Summer Day and Mahjong. He also acted in Hsiao-hsien Hou's A Summer at Grandpa's. Most recently Yang was to write and direct an animated film produced by Jackie Chan, but the project was cancelled when the filmmaker became ill. He died of colon cancer June 29, in Beverly Hills.
